Expressing the recombinant Human PLXNA1 protein in e.coli cells involves inserting a DNA fragment encoding the Human PLXNA1 protein (986-1152aa) into a plasmid vector and transferring it to the e.coli cells. Positive cells are screened, cultured, and induced to express the PLXNA1 protein. The protein carries a N-terminal 6xHis tag. The cells are lysed to collect the recombinant Human PLXNA1 protein, which is purified through affinity purification and then identified using SDS-PAGE and subsequent staining of the gel with Coomassie Brilliant Blue. The purity of the resulting recombinant Human PLXNA1 protein exceeds 90%.

Target Name
PLXNA1
Target Full Name
Plexin-A1
Target Function
Coreceptor for SEMA3A, SEMA3C, SEMA3F and SEMA6D. Necessary for signaling by class 3 semaphorins and subsequent remodeling of the cytoskeleton. Plays a role in axon guidance, invasive growth and cell migration. Class 3 semaphorins bind to a complex composed of a neuropilin and a plexin. The plexin modulates the affinity of the complex for specific semaphorins, and its cytoplasmic domain is required for the activation of down-stream signaling events in the cytoplasm.
Target Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Target Protein Families
Plexin family
Target Tissue Specificity
Detected in fetal brain, lung, liver and kidney.
Target Research Area
Neuroscience
Target Synonyms
PLXNA1; NOV; PLXN1; Plexin-A1; Semaphorin receptor NOV
Target Background
Predicted to enable semaphorin receptor activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including generation of neurons; regulation of GTPase activity; and regulation of cell shape. Predicted to act upstream of or within dichotomous subdivision of terminal units involved in salivary gland branching; neuron projection morphogenesis; and regulation of smooth muscle cell migration. Located in cytosol and nucleoplasm.
