Dioxygenase that specifically demethylates DNA methylated on the 6th position of adenine (N(6)-methyladenosine) DNA. N(6)-methyladenosine (m6A) DNA is present at a relatively high level at the very earliest embryonic stages but at low levels at the late embryonic stages and may act as a regulator of gene expression. Promotes differentiation of early germ cells in ovary.
