Target Name
BDKRB2
Target Full Name
B2 bradykinin receptor
Target Function
Receptor for bradykinin. It is associated with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
Target Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Target Protein Families
G-protein coupled receptor 1 family, Bradykinin receptor subfamily, BDKRB2 sub-subfamily
Target Tissue Specificity
Ubiquitous. Widespread in normal smooth muscle tissue and neurons.
Target Synonyms
BDKRB2; BKR2; B2 bradykinin receptor; B2R; BK-2 receptor
Target Background
This gene encodes a receptor for bradykinin. The 9 aa bradykinin peptide elicits many responses including vasodilation, edema, smooth muscle spasm and pain fiber stimulation. Bradykinin is released upon activation by pathophysiologic conditions such as trauma and inflammation, and binds to its kinin receptors, B1 and B2. The B2 receptor associates with G proteins that stimulate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
