Rabbit anti-Human CERS5 Polyclonal Antibody

The antibody against CERS5 was raised in Rabbit using a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within amino acids 1-100 of human CERS5 (NP_001268660.1) as the immunogen. The polyclonal antibody exists as a isotype IgG, by affinity purification. This antibody has been validated on WB, ELISA.

Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q8N5B7

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    CERS5

  • Target Full Name

    Ceramide synthase 5

  • Target Function

Ceramide synthase that catalyzes the transfer of the acyl chain from acyl-CoA to a sphingoid base, with high selectivity toward palmitoyl-CoA (hexadecanoyl-CoA; C16:0-CoA)(PubMed:16951403, PubMed:18541923, PubMed:22144673, PubMed:22661289, PubMed:23530041, PubMed:26887952, PubMed:29632068, PubMed:31916624). Can use other acyl donors, but with less efficiency. N-acylates sphinganine and sphingosine bases to form dihydroceramides and ceramides in de novo synthesis and salvage pathways, respectively. Plays a role in de novo ceramide synthesis and surfactant homeostasis in pulmonary epithelia.

  • Target Subcellular Location

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

  • Target Synonyms

    CERS5; LASS5; Ceramide synthase 5; CerS5; LAG1 longevity assurance homolog 5; Sphingoid base N-palmitoyltransferase CERS5; Sphingosine N-acyltransferase CERS5

  • Target Background

This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the TLC (TRAM, LAG1 and CLN8 homology domains) family of proteins. The encoded protein functions in the synthesis of ceramide, a lipid molecule that is involved in a several cellular signaling pathways. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
