Rabbit anti-Human RBP4 Monoclonal Antibody

The antibody against RBP4 was raised in Rabbit using a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within amino acids 102-201 of human RBP4 (P02753) as the immunogen. The monoclonal antibody exists as a isotype IgG, by affinity purification. This antibody has been validated on WB, IF/ICC, ELISA.

Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    P02753

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    RBP4

  • Target Full Name

    Retinol-binding protein 4

  • Target Function

Retinol-binding protein that mediates retinol transport in blood plasma. Delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues. Transfers the bound all-trans retinol to STRA6, that then facilitates retinol transport across the cell membrane.

  • Target Involvement

Retinal dystrophy, iris coloboma, and comedogenic acne syndrome (RDCCAS); Microphthalmia, isolated, with coloboma, 10 (MCOPCB10)

  • Target Subcellular Location

    Secreted.

  • Target Protein Families

    Calycin superfamily, Lipocalin family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

Detected in blood plasma and in urine (at protein level).

  • Target Synonyms

    RDCCAS; MCOPCB10; RBP4

  • Target Background

This protein belongs to the lipocalin family and is the specific carrier for retinol (vitamin A alcohol) in the blood. It delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues. In plasma, the RBP-retinol complex interacts with transthyretin which prevents its loss by filtration through the kidney glomeruli. A deficiency of vitamin A blocks secretion of the binding protein posttranslationally and results in defective delivery and supply to the epidermal cells.
