Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q16647

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    PTGIS

  • Target Full Name

    Prostacyclin synthase

  • Target Function

Catalyzes the biosynthesis and metabolism of eicosanoids. Catalyzes the isomerization of prostaglandin H2 to prostacyclin (= prostaglandin I2), a potent mediator of vasodilation and inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Additionally, displays dehydratase activity, toward hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoates (HPETEs), especially toward (15S)-hydroperoxy-(5Z,8Z,11Z,13E)-eicosatetraenoate (15(S)-HPETE).

  • Target Involvement

    Essential hypertension (EHT)

  • Target Subcellular Location

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.

  • Target Protein Families

    Cytochrome P450 family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

Widely expressed; particularly abundant in ovary, heart, skeletal muscle, lung and prostate.

  • Target Synonyms

    CYP8; CYP8A1; Cytochrome P450, family 8, subfamily A, polypeptide 1; EC 5.3.99.4; MGC126858; MGC126860; OTTHUMP00000031777; PGIS; Prostacyclin synthase; Prostaglandin I2 (prostacyclin) synthase; Prostaglandin I2 synthase; PTGI; PTGIS; PTGIS_HUMAN
