Recombinant Human Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGFB)

The expression of the recombinant Human VEGFB protein entails introducing a DNA expression vector containing the gene for the desired protein (22-207aa) into e.coli cells through transformation. Subsequently, the cells are cultured to facilitate the expression of the intended protein. The protein features a N-terminal 10xHis-GST tag and C-terminal Myc tag fusion. The resulting recombinant Human VEGFB protein is then gathered and purified from the cell lysate using affinity purification. Its purity, determined by SDS-PAGE, exceeds 85%.

Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    P49765

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    VEGFB

  • Target Full Name

    Vascular endothelial growth factor B

  • Target Function

Growth factor for endothelial cells. VEGF-B167 binds heparin and neuropilin-1 whereas the binding to neuropilin-1 of VEGF-B186 is regulated by proteolysis.

  • Target Subcellular Location

Secreted. Note=Secreted but remains associated to cells or to the extracellular matrix unless released by heparin.

  • Target Protein Families

    PDGF/VEGF growth factor family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

Expressed in all tissues except liver. Highest levels found in heart, skeletal muscle and pancreas.

  • Target Research Area

    Cancer

  • Target Synonyms

Vascular endothelial growth factor B; Vascular endothelial growth factor-related factor; VEGF B; VEGF related factor; VEGF-B; VEGF-related factor; Vegfb; VEGFB_HUMAN; VEGFL; VRF

  • Target Background

This gene encodes a member of the PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor)/VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) family. The VEGF family members regulate the formation of blood vessels and are involved in endothelial cell physiology. This member is a ligand for VEGFR-1 (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1) and NRP-1 (neuropilin-1). Studies in mice showed that this gene was co-expressed with nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes and the encoded protein specifically controlled endothelial uptake of fatty acids. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
