Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q9H0B6

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    KLC2

  • Target Full Name

    Kinesin light chain 2

  • Target Function

Kinesin is a microtubule-associated force-producing protein that plays a role in organelle transport. The light chain functions in coupling of cargo to the heavy chain or in the modulation of its ATPase activity (Probable). Through binding with PLEKHM2 and ARL8B, recruits kinesin-1 to lysosomes and hence direct lysosomes movement toward microtubule plus ends.

  • Target Involvement

Spastic paraplegia, optic atrophy, and neuropathy (SPOAN)

  • Target Subcellular Location

Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton. Lysosome membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side.

  • Target Protein Families

    Kinesin light chain family

  • Target Synonyms

    Kinesin light chain 2; KLC 2; KLC2; KLC2_HUMAN

  • Target Background

The protein encoded by this gene is a light chain of kinesin, a molecular motor responsible for moving vesicles and organelles along microtubules. Defects in this gene are a cause of spastic paraplegia, optic atrophy, and neuropathy (SPOAN) syndrome.
