Immunogen Information

Target SpeciesHumanUniprot IDQ15437
Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q15437

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    SEC23B

  • Target Full Name

    Protein transport protein Sec23B

  • Target Function

Component of the coat protein complex II (COPII) which promotes the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The coat has two main functions, the physical deformation of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane into vesicles and the selection of cargo molecules for their transport to the Golgi complex.

  • Target Involvement

    Cowden syndrome 7 (CWS7); Anemia, congenital dyserythropoietic, 2 (CDAN2)

  • Target Subcellular Location

Cytoplasmic vesicle, COPII-coated vesicle membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side. Cytoplasm, cytosol.

  • Target Protein Families

    SEC23/SEC24 family, SEC23 subfamily

  • Target Tissue Specificity

    Ubiquitously expressed.

  • Target Synonyms

    CDA II; CDAII; CDAN2; HEMPAS; Protein transport protein Sec23B; RP11-379J5.1; SC23B_HUMAN; Sec23 homolog B (S. cerevisiae); SEC23 related protein B; SEC23-like protein B; SEC23-related protein B; Sec23b; Transport protein SEC23B

  • Target Background

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the SEC23 subfamily of the SEC23/SEC24 family, which is involved in vesicle trafficking. The encoded protein has similarity to yeast Sec23p component of COPII. COPII is the coat protein complex responsible for vesicle budding from the ER. The function of this gene product has been implicated in cargo selection and concentration. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified in this gene.
