Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    P19387

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    POLR2C

  • Target Full Name

DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB3

  • Target Function

DNA-dependent RNA polymerase catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. Component of RNA polymerase II which synthesizes mRNA precursors and many functional non-coding RNAs. Pol II is the central component of the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. It is composed of mobile elements that move relative to each other. RPB3 is part of the core element with the central large cleft and the clamp element that moves to open and close the cleft.

  • Target Subcellular Location

  • Target Protein Families

Archaeal RpoD/eukaryotic RPB3 RNA polymerase subunit family

  • Target Synonyms

DNA directed RNA polymerase II 33 kDa polypeptide; DNA directed RNA polymerase II subunit C; DNA directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB3; DNA-directed RNA polymerase II 33 kDa polypeptide; DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit C; DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB3; hRPB33; hsRPB3; POLR 2C; POLR2 C; Polr2c; Polymerase (RNA) II (DNA directed) polypeptide C; 33kDa; polymerase RNA II DNA directed polypeptide C 33kDa; RNA polymerase II polypeptide C; RNA polymerase II subunit 3; RNA polymerase II subunit B3; RPB 3; RPB3; RPB3_HUMAN; RPB31; RPB33

  • Target Background

This gene encodes the third largest subunit of RNA polymerase II, the polymerase responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes. The product of this gene contains a cysteine rich region and exists as a heterodimer with another polymerase subunit, POLR2J. These two subunits form a core subassembly unit of the polymerase. A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 21.
