Target Name
RAB12
Target Full Name
Ras-related protein Rab-12
Target Function
The small GTPases Rab are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. Rabs cycle between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form that is able to recruit to membranes different set of downstream effectors directly responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering and fusion. That Rab may play a role in protein transport from recycling endosomes to lysosomes regulating, for instance, the degradation of the transferrin receptor. Involved in autophagy.
Target Subcellular Location
Recycling endosome membrane; Lipid-anchor; Cytoplasmic side. Lysosome membrane; Lipid-anchor; Cytoplasmic side. Golgi apparatus membrane. Cytoplasmic vesicle, autophagosome.
Target Protein Families
Small GTPase superfamily, Rab family
Target Research Area
Neuroscience
Target Synonyms
Putative Ras related protein Rab 12; RAB12; RAB12; member RAS oncogene family; RAB12_HUMAN; Ras-related protein Rab-12
Target Background
Enables GDP binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including cellular response to insulin stimulus; endosome to lysosome transport; and secretion by cell. Predicted to act upstream of or within cellular response to interferon-gamma. Predicted to be located in lysosome; phagocytic vesicle; and recycling endosome membrane. Predicted to be active in Golgi apparatus; cytoplasmic vesicle; and plasma membrane.
