Rabbit anti-Human Calpain 2 Monoclonal Antibody

The antibody against Calpain 2 was raised in Rabbit using a synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within amino acids 600-700 of human Calpain 2 (P17655) as the immunogen. The monoclonal antibody exists as a isotype IgG, by affinity purification. This antibody has been validated on WB, ELISA.

Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    P17655

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    CAPN2

  • Target Full Name

    Calpain-2 catalytic subunit

  • Target Function

Calcium-regulated non-lysosomal thiol-protease which catalyzes limited proteolysis of substrates involved in cytoskeletal remodeling and signal transduction. Proteolytically cleaves MYOC at 'Arg-226'. Proteolytically cleaves CPEB3 following neuronal stimulation which abolishes CPEB3 translational repressor activity, leading to translation of CPEB3 target mRNAs.

  • Target Subcellular Location

Cytoplasm. Cell membrane. Note=Translocates to the plasma membrane upon Ca(2+) binding.

  • Target Protein Families

    Peptidase C2 family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

    Ubiquitous.

  • Target Background

The calpains, calcium-activated neutral proteases, are nonlysosomal, intracellular cysteine proteases. The mammalian calpains include ubiquitous, stomach-specific, and muscle-specific proteins. The ubiquitous enzymes consist of heterodimers with distinct large, catalytic subunits associated with a common small, regulatory subunit. This gene encodes the large subunit of the ubiquitous enzyme, calpain 2. Multiple heterogeneous transcriptional start sites in the 5' UTR have been reported. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
