  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    CTSZ

  • Target Full Name

    Cathepsin Z

  • Target Function

Exhibits carboxy-monopeptidase as well as carboxy-dipeptidase activity. Capable of producing kinin potentiating peptides.

  • Target Subcellular Location

    Lysosome.

  • Target Protein Families

    Peptidase C1 family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

    Widely expressed.

  • Target Synonyms

Carboxypeptidase LB; Cathepsin B2; Cathepsin IV; Cathepsin P; Cathepsin X; Cathepsin X precursor; Cathepsin Y; Cathepsin Z; Cathepsin Z precursor; Cathepsin Z1; CathepsinP; CathepsinX; CathepsinZ; CATZ_HUMAN; CTSX; CTSZ; Cysteine type carboxypeptidase; FLJ17088; Lysosomal carboxypeptidase B; Preprocathepsin P; PreprocathepsinP

  • Target Background

The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase and member of the peptidase C1 family. It exhibits both carboxy-monopeptidase and carboxy-dipeptidase activities. The encoded protein has also been known as cathepsin X and cathepsin P. This gene is expressed ubiquitously in cancer cell lines and primary tumors and, like other members of this family, may be involved in tumorigenesis.
