Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q99685

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    MGLL

  • Target Full Name

    Monoglyceride lipase

  • Target Function

Converts monoacylglycerides to free fatty acids and glycerol. Hydrolyzes the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol, and thereby contributes to the regulation of endocannabinoid signaling, nociperception and perception of pain. Regulates the levels of fatty acids that serve as signaling molecules and promote cancer cell migration, invasion and tumor growth.

  • Target Subcellular Location

Cytoplasm, cytosol. Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.

  • Target Protein Families

AB hydrolase superfamily, Monoacylglycerol lipase family

  • Target Tissue Specificity

Detected in adipose tissue, lung, liver, kidney, brain and heart.

  • Target Research Area

    Cardiovascular

  • Target Synonyms

  • Target Background

This gene encodes a serine hydrolase of the AB hydrolase superfamily that catalyzes the conversion of monoacylglycerides to free fatty acids and glycerol. The encoded protein plays a critical role in several physiological processes including pain and nociperception through hydrolysis of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol. Expression of this gene may play a role in cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene.
