Background Information
  • Uniprot Id

    Q96GX9

  • Target Species

    Human

  • Target Name

    APIP

  • Target Full Name

    Methylthioribulose-1-phosphate dehydratase

  • Target Function

Catalyzes the dehydration of methylthioribulose-1-phosphate (MTRu-1-P) into 2,3-diketo-5-methylthiopentyl-1-phosphate (DK-MTP-1-P). Functions in the methionine salvage pathway, which plays a key role in cancer, apoptosis, microbial proliferation and inflammation. May inhibit the CASP1-related inflammatory response (pyroptosis), the CASP9-dependent apoptotic pathway and the cytochrome c-dependent and APAF1-mediated cell death.

  • Target Subcellular Location

    Cytoplasm.

  • Target Protein Families

Aldolase class II family, MtnB subfamily

  • Target Tissue Specificity

Isoform 1 is ubiquitously expressed. Isoform 2 is expressed at lower levels and detected in heart, brain, pancreas, liver, placenta, skeletal muscle and kidney.

  • Target Research Area

    Cell Biology

  • Target Synonyms

    Apaf1 Interacting Protein; APAF1-interacting protein; APIP; APIP2; CG129; CGI 29; CGI29; dJ179L10.2; MMRP19; Monocyte/macrophage protein 19; MTNB_HUMAN; MTRu 1 P dehydratase; MTRu-1-P dehydratase; Probable methylthioribulose 1 phosphate dehydratase; Probable methylthioribulose-1-phosphate dehydratase

  • Target Background

Enables identical protein binding activity; methylthioribulose 1-phosphate dehydratase activity; and zinc ion binding activity. Involved in several processes, including L-methionine salvage from methylthioadenosine; protein homotetramerization; and pyroptosis. Located in cytoplasm.
