The pipeline for the recombinant Human SMOC1 protein production in e.coli cells consists of the following consecutive steps: construction of the expression vector encoding the Human SMOC1 protein (277-382aa), its transformation into e.coli cells, high-density cultivation and induction of the positive cells, cell lysis, and expression analysis. The protein features a N-terminal 6xHis-GST tag fusion. The resulting recombinant Human SMOC1 protein is purified from the cell lysate through affinity purification, and its purity is greater than 90% determined by the SDS-PAGE.

Target Full Name
SPARC-related modular calcium-binding protein 1
Target Function
Plays essential roles in both eye and limb development. Probable regulator of osteoblast differentiation.
Target Involvement
Ophthalmoacromelic syndrome (OAS)
Target Subcellular Location
Secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix, basement membrane. Note=In or around the basement membrane.
Target Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed in many tissues with a strongest signal in ovary. No expression in spleen.
Target Research Area
Developmental Biology
Target Synonyms
Secreted modular calcium-binding protein 1; SMOC-1; SMOC1; SMOC1_HUMAN; SPARC-related modular calcium-binding protein 1
Target Background
This gene encodes a multi-domain secreted protein that may have a critical role in ocular and limb development. Mutations in this gene are associated with microphthalmia and limb anomalies. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
