Target Name
TRMT6
Target Full Name
tRNA (adenine(58)-N(1))-methyltransferase non-catalytic subunit TRM6
Target Function
Substrate-binding subunit of tRNA (adenine-N(1)-)-methyltransferase, which catalyzes the formation of N(1)-methyladenine at position 58 (m1A58) in initiator methionyl-tRNA. Together with the TRMT61A catalytic subunit, part of a mRNA N(1)-methyltransferase complex that mediates methylation of adenosine residues at the N(1) position of a small subset of mRNAs: N(1) methylation takes place in tRNA T-loop-like structures of mRNAs and is only present at low stoichiometries.
Target Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Target Protein Families
TRM6/GCD10 family
Target Tissue Specificity
Expressed in brain, liver, testis and ovary.
Target Synonyms
IAA1153; Adenine N ; CGI 09; CGI09; GCD10 ; Gcd10p ; MGC5029; TRM6 ; TRM6_HUMAN; trmt6; tRNA (adenine-N(1)-)-methyltransferase non-catalytic subunit TRM6; tRNA methyltransferase 6; tRNA methyltransferase 6 homolog (S. cerevisiae) ; tRNA(m1A58)-methyltransferase subunit TRM6; tRNA(m1A58)MTase subunit TRM6
Target Background
This gene encodes a member of the tRNA methyltransferase 6 protein family. A similar protein in yeast is part of a two component methyltransferase, which is involved in the posttranslational modification that produces the modified nucleoside 1-methyladenosine in tRNAs. Modified 1-methyladenosine influences initiator methionine stability and may be involved in the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
