Target Name
INPP4B
Target Full Name
Inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase type II
Target Function
Catalyzes the hydrolysis of the 4-position phosphate of phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate, inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate and inositol 3,4-trisphosphate. Plays a role in the late stages of macropinocytosis by dephosphorylating phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate in membrane ruffles. The lipid phosphatase activity is critical for tumor suppressor function. Antagonizes the PI3K-AKT/PKB signaling pathway by dephosphorylating phosphoinositides and thereby modulating cell cycle progression and cell survival.
Target Protein Families
Inositol 3,4-bisphosphate 4-phosphatase family
Target Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed with highest levels occurring in the skeletal muscle and heart.
Target Synonyms
Inositol polyphosphate 4 phosphatase, type II; 4-bisphosphate 4-phosphatase; Inositol polyphosphate 4 phosphatase type II 105kDa; Inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase type II; INP4B_HUMAN; Inpp4b; MGC132014; Type II inositol 3,4 bisphosphate 4 phosphatase; Type II inositol-3
Target Background
INPP4B encodes the inositol polyphosphate 4-phosphatase type II, one of the enzymes involved in phosphatidylinositol signaling pathways. This enzyme removes the phosphate group at position 4 of the inositol ring from inositol 3, 4-bisphosphate. There is limited data to suggest that the human type II enzyme is subject to alternative splicing, as has been established for the type I enzyme.
